Old SEO tactics that never seem to go away

I'm constantly amazed by the number of SEO requests I receive that are based on outdated SEO tactics. I'm simply curious what others are experiencing.

  • Meta tags keyword stuffing and Anchor text overuse.

    • Meta tag keyword stuffing. Back in the day, you could stuff all the keywords in your title, keyword, and description meta tag. You would rank for these keywords, even if the page was about a totally different subject.
    • Anchor Text overuse. You could give all your backlinks the same anchor text and actually rank. Imagine you wanted to rank for the term “apple pie”. You just give all your backlinks the “apple pie” anchor text and you would actually rank.

Most if not all of the other practices I’ve read in the answers are yes not advised to get top “whitehat” rankings, but actually still have their uses. It all depends on the objective of your website/page. Which hat you want to wear and the money/time you want to spend.
